What are colchester organizations doing?

Colchester Emergency Night Shelter, Beacon House, Emmaus...these are the most well-known homelessness charities in Colchester. But how exactly do these organizations help homeless people? Listen and find out!

GO4 Enterprises is not a homeless charity, it's a non-profit organization. However, they do a lot of work with homeless people and they have different projects to help those in need, offering workshop and training opportunities.

‘Some people will never overcome homelessness, because they don’t want to live within the confines of four walls. Some people are quite transient.  They don’t want to have the responsibility of paying rent. They want to be able to move around. ‘

‘The people on the street are single people- for them homelessness is rough, but they are just managing themselves. But it’s the homeless families that are in serious trouble. There’s a lot of other people who are just as desperate, if not… more so. But the ones who get all the attention are street people.’

-Vivienne Wiggings, Chief Executive Officer at Beacon House, Colchester

‘That feeling of low self-esteem, self-worth must take a really big hit on an individual, to kind of just be ignored by the general public, because it seems like they [the society] doesn’t care. ‘

-Florence Baines, Community Progression Worker

at Emmaus, Colchester
